Home Tuition
If you have a child who has a diagnosis of Autism, they may be entitled to Home Tuition under the Department of Education, where, subject to the terms and conditions of the scheme, your child can receive one on one tuition in the family home, by an approved tutor. If your child is attending Primary school they cannot receive home tuition.
If your child is attending preschool, the hours your child attends preschool is deducted from their Home Tuition hours e.g if you have a child aged 4 who is entitled to 20 hours a week Home Tuition, but attends preschool for 15 hours – your child is then only entitled to 5 hours a week Home Tuition.
Children aged 2.5 years to 3 years may be entitled to 10 hours a week.
Children aged 3+ may be entitled to 20 hours a week.

Mainstream Preschools
If you child is or will be attending a mainstream preschool, they may be entitled to apply for additional support under the AIM scheme.
The Better Start Access and Inclusion Model (AIM) is a model of supports designed to ensure that children with disabilities can access the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) programme. Its goal is to empower service providers to deliver an inclusive pre-school experience, ensuring that every eligible child can fully participate in the ECCE programme and reap the benefits of quality early years care and education. If your child is to attend mainstream school, he/she may be able to access support via a Special Needs Assistant (SNA) and also Resource Teaching Hours. The school usually makes the application on the child’s behalf to the Dept of Education. Please liaise with your school principal on this matter.

July Provision
The July Education Programme provides funding for an extended school year for children with a severe or profound general learning disability or children with autism. The extended year is more commonly known as July Provision or the July Education Programme. Where an eligible school participates in the programme, an extra month’s education is provided to a pupil who meets the scheme’s criteria.
